Love for Roguelikes -STAMP-

Description

Template kind of done by :iconabfc:~Abfc, but since I took the reflection off it doesn't really look that much like the original. Amazing how much the little details matter.

A little something for us strange gamers who still like Roguelikes.

Our player was doing so well for a while there. Originally the player was supposed to be killed by the horde, but I realized it would be much funnier if (s)he was killed by a rolling boulder trap, which is kind of the bane of my and a few friends' existences.

If you're wondering what the joke is here, in Roguelikes monsters and pretty much everything is represented using ASCII characters. Here's a brief list of the monsters shown here (note that these are NetHack monsters; different Roguelikes have different symbols to represent monsters)

R - Rust Monster or Disenchanter: A creature from NetHack that will rust your metal items or disenchant enchanted items, respectively

o - orc or goblin: this is the Tolkeinesque version of goblins. Any good fantasy nerd knows what these are.

g - gremlin

u - unicorn or other horse

e - floating eye or other sphere: floating eyes are just annoying in NetHack, and really any fantasy game. You can't do a nonranged attack on these things without being frozen and then attacked while you're paralyzed, and they never go away. Luckily, they're very slow.

l - leprechaun: these things are my mortal enemies. They steal some of your gold and then teleport away. I kill these things every opportunity I can, because I can't stand them. Fortunately for our player, it died before it could annoy him/her.

i - imp

k - kobold

s - spider or arachnid

@ - The player or another human or elf

% - a piece of food (in this case, a bunch of corpses)

0 - a boulder: In NetHack, you can specify your own symbol to represent boulders in-game, which is handy because if you don't they look exactly like harmless statues. 0 is the character most people like to use, although I hate it personally.

This isn't very good. I'll probably revamp it later when I'm in the mood. I also want to do a separate version for NetHack and a few other significant Roguelikes.
